This is the Year of the Dragon – the most auspicious year and many expectant mothers are looking forward to their “dragon” babies.  Wood Dragons to be specific.  Associated with the 12 zodiac signs are the 5 elements — water, fire, earth, gold (metal) and wood, which brings their own traits.  People born in the Year of the Dragon are confident, creative, noble, charming, energetic, born leaders, destined for greatness and good fortune.  Wood Dragons are more introverted and are associated with morality and ethics. Dragons can also be impulsive, irritable and don’t take criticism well.

Dragons are most compatible with those born in the Year of Rat, Monkey or Rooster.

Dragons are least compatible with those born in the Year of the Dog.

Personalities born in the Year of the Dragon include Bruce Lee, John Lennon, Charles Darwin, Adele, Martin Luther King, Rihanna and Vladimir Putin.

Other Dragons were born in 2012, 2000, 1988, 1976, 1964, 1952 and so on.

You may ask why the Dragon is the 5th animal in the Chinese Zodiac calendar, after the rabbit, tiger, ox and rat.  One would think that it being the most powerful should come in 1st in the Jade Emperor’s zodiac race.  According to the legend, the Dragon’s protective personality delayed his race. He saved a village from drought and famine by flying into the clouds and producing rain over the village.  On his way back to the race, he came across another village which was threatened by flood.  He stopped, opened his mouth to absorb the water and moved the water to the sea, averting destruction of the village.  As he returned to the race, he saw the Rabbit being chased by a wolf.  He dealt with the wolf, saved the Rabbit, allowing the Rabbit to go ahead of him.  The Dragon is an honorable animal.
